1. What cookies are
Cookies are small text files placed on your device by a website. Some are set by us (first-party cookies); others are set by services we use (third-party cookies). We also use similar technologies — specifically your browser's localStorage — to remember choices without needing a cookie at all. This policy covers both, and should be read alongside our Privacy Policy.
2. How consent works on this site
When you first visit, a banner offers three choices. Accept All enables essential, analytics and functional cookies. Reject Non-Essential keeps only essential cookies. Preferences lets you choose analytics and functional cookies separately. Your choice is stored in localStorage under the key csf-cookie-consent for twelve months so the banner does not reappear. You can revisit it at any time from the "Cookie settings" link in the footer. No analytics or functional cookie is set until you have made a positive choice.
3. The cookies we use
| Name | Category | Provider | Purpose | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| csf-cookie-consent | Essential | clipscoutscoutshelf.makeup (localStorage) | Records your cookie choice so the banner is not shown again. | 12 months |
| __cf_bm | Essential | Cloudflare | Distinguishes humans from bots to protect the site from abuse. | 30 minutes |
| cf_clearance | Essential | Cloudflare | Records that a security challenge was passed. | Up to 1 year |
| plausible_ignore | Analytics | Plausible (localStorage) | Lets you exclude your own visits from our aggregated analytics. | Until cleared |
| csf-analytics-session | Analytics | clipscoutscoutshelf.makeup | Groups page views into a single visit for aggregated reporting. Contains a random identifier only. | 30 minutes |
| csf-guide-progress | Functional | clipscoutscoutshelf.makeup (localStorage) | Remembers which guides you have opened so we can suggest the next one. | 6 months |
| csf-units | Functional | clipscoutscoutshelf.makeup (localStorage) | Stores your preferred currency display for price tables. | 6 months |
4. Categories explained
- Essential — required for the site to work and to keep it secure. These cannot be switched off through the banner, but you can block them in your browser; some pages may then fail to load.
- Analytics — help us understand which guides are read and where people leave. Data is aggregated and cannot be used to identify you. Set only with consent.
- Functional — remember choices such as currency display or which guides you have read. Set only with consent.
We do not use advertising or tracking cookies, and we do not allow third parties to set cookies for advertising purposes on this site.
5. Managing cookies in your browser
You can view, delete and block cookies through your browser settings. Blocking all cookies may stop parts of this and other sites from working. Instructions for common browsers:
- Google Chrome — Settings › Privacy and security › Third-party cookies, or visit
chrome://settings/cookies. Full guidance at support.google.com. - Mozilla Firefox — Settings › Privacy & Security › Cookies and Site Data. See support.mozilla.org.
- Apple Safari — Safari › Settings › Privacy › Manage Website Data. On iOS: Settings › Safari › Block All Cookies. See support.apple.com.
- Microsoft Edge — Settings › Cookies and site permissions › Manage and delete cookies and site data. See support.microsoft.com.
To clear the localStorage entries listed above, use your browser's "Clear site data" option for clipscoutscoutshelf.makeup, or choose "Reject Non-Essential" from the footer's Cookie settings, which removes the functional entries immediately.
6. Changes to this policy
We will update this page whenever we add, remove or change a cookie. Material changes will be flagged on the banner the next time you visit. Questions can be sent to [email protected].
